Somerville Aluminum Gains EPA Lead-Safe Certification
On a mission to comply with all environmental regulations in offering comprehensive home contracting services, Somerville Aluminum has gained EPA Lead-Safe Certification. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, lead-based paint was used in more than 38 million homes until it was banned for residential use in 1978.
“We take pride in keeping all of our home contracting certifications up to date,” said Gary Shiman, Owner and Executive Vice President, Somerville Aluminum. “In addition to ensuring the safety of our customers, we also want to ensure that they are completely satisfied with every project, which is why we remain one of the few family owned and operated home remodeling firms that has been in business for over sixty years.”
Federal law now requires that homes built prior to 1978 must use a Certified Lead Renovator based on the 2010 EPA Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule for all home renovations. Prior to beginning any work on six square feet or more of interior projects or 20 square feet of exterior projects with painted spaces, renovators must provide homeowners and tenants with the EPA’s Renovate Right Lead Hazard Pamphlet.
Key Somerville Aluminum personnel have completed EPA training courses necessary to correctly follow required practices to prevent lead contamination. The EPA encourages anyone hiring a home contractor to request to see the firm’s certification identification. The Somerville Aluminum Certification Identification is NAT 199963-1.
According to the EPA, lead can affect children’s brains and developing nervous systems causing reduced IQ, learning disabilities and behavioral problems as well as being harmful to adults. Lead in dust is the most common way that people are exposed to lead. They can also get lead in their bodies from lead in soil or paint chips.
